CA 2022 Residential Code ICC CA Residential Building Inspector J1 Test Prep Class

The class instructor is Skip Walker, MCI and ICC CA Combination Residential Building Inspector.  The classes takes place over 5 weeks.  Each class is 3 hours in duration.   We will cover all 10 chapters of the CA 2022 Residential Code.  This is code currently being enforced in residential construction in California.  The class is intended to prepare the attendee for taking the ICC CA Residential J1 Building Certification exam.

The J1 is the first of four tests that, once passed, will qualify you the following designations. Certified ICC CA Residential Combination Building Inspector (J5).  The J5 is professionally recognized by state and local municipalities, Architects, Engineers, design professionals, and General Contractors.  With the J1, you will also be qualified to become a CREIA Level I Master Inspector. In other words you will join a relative few ASHI/CREIA Inspectors that are the most qualified in our profession.

The class series will start Tuesday April 29th, 6-9 PM and run for 5 consecutive weeks on Tuesday evenings from 6-9 pm. This is the building provisions portion of a class Skip teaches locally at the College of San Mateo.  Of the CSM students that took the ICC exams after taking his class, there was a 90 percent first time pass rate for the ICC exams.  Most of these CSM students had no previous code experience.

This class has homework and weekly assignments.  There will be weekly quizzes and a final mock ICC exam.  Each participant must have a hardcopy of the CA 2022 Residential Code prior to taking the class.  You must attend all 5 class sessions and complete all assignments.  The classes will be on Zoom but will NOT be recorded.  You will receive copies of the PowerPoint slides for each class.

The cost for the class to ASHI, CREIA and ICC Members is $300,  However, if you pre-register to take the ICC J1 exam ( Schedule exam on or before June 16th), the class fee is waived.  Meaning zero cost for the class.  Proof of ICC exam registration is required to receive the discounted fee at registration.

To be prepared to take this class and the ICC test, you must purchase the CA 2022 Residential Building code book well before the first class.  It is required that you have read chapters 1-3 prior to the first class.  You may highlight these books for use in taking the open book ICC test in a proctored online setting.  Do not write in the book.  You may also purchase the digital version, but digital books are NOT allowed in the ICC examination.
